Before and after cleaning..... ECW horse.

A quick post this one, by the weekend I hope to have all three ECW horse units acquired via eBay re- based retouched (only where necessary) and gleaming! This is a quick 'before and after' cleaning comparison of just one of the units, only water on a soft brush, but it's really bought out some nice detail and crisp brushwork. All three units were VERY dirty, they turn the brush quite black after a gentle scrub, but as you can see what emerges are fine bright figures and horses.

Clean figures on the right, as they arrived on the left!

Close up.

I don't know if these pics show the true difference, but it's quite staggering!

And the 'dirty' base after a good clean with brush and water, compare with above.

Ready for rebasing.

    1. I was surprised myself Ian, I could see they were very dirty but the colours came up so much more vibrantly.

  2. That's quite amazing actually - so much painted detail under that grime!

    1. THey must have been painted a very long time ago as the style is very much 'vintage', they were painted over a white undercoat and the horses came up really well too. I could not see the figures eyes until I cleaned them!

    1. The more detail that emerged the more of a bargain I felt I had!

  4. Crikey, 'Lee. If they had any more soil on them, toy soliders would start being classed as a biohazard in New Zealand, which would put the kybosh on my activities!

    1. There was even a rather nasty smell to the brush as I cleaned them, I used a white flash brush and it turned black with grime, had to keep cleaning it but all rather satisfying in the end :)
